Merriman Summer School 2013

I’m giving a talk on Thursday at the (bilingual) Merriman summer school in Lisdoonvarna Co. Clare. The topic this year is ‘Ireland North and South: two societies growing apart?’ (Éire agus Ulaidh: ag dul a mbealach féin feasta?) and there’s a great array of speakers involved (programme at The Merriman summer school is also well noted for the lively social programme associated with it. I’ll be giving a talk called ‘Tábhacht an Tuaiscirt do Phobal an Deiscirt’ (the importance of the North for people in the Republic of Ireland) and I’ll be discussing the power of boundaries to shape collective identities.merriman prog image
